On behalf of Chris and the entire Pittman family, we want to thank all of you for your kind offers of support. We also appreciate your thoughts and prayers. Many of you have asked what else you can do. Therefore, we have compiled a list of several options.
1. Several people have asked about a legal defense fund. Although our services have been provided on a pro bono (free) basis, we have decided to respond to these requests by establishing a legal defense fund, which will be used SOLELY to defray out-of-pocket expenses. In the event that funds are left over, they will be invested for Chris' benefit when he gets out of jail. More information about the Chris Pittman Legal Defense Fund is available on our website.
2. If you have thoughts you want to share with the Court regarding leniency for Chris, you may send the letters directly to:
Hon. Daniel Pieper
Circuit Court Judge
Ninth Judicial Circuit
100 Broad Street
Charleston, SC 29401-2287
3. Many people have asked about writing the President or the Governor of South
Carolina to ask for a pardon for Chris.
The proper channel in South Carolina is to send a letter to:
Departments of Probation, Parole & Pardon Service
Attn: Parole Board Members
P. O. Box 50666
Columbia, SC 29250
4. For those who want to pursue legislative reform in South Carolina, you may write your local Congressman or Senator. If you are from South Carolina, please write your local legislators to ask them to support legislation prohibiting the prosecution of kids under the age of 14 as adults, even if the crime is murder.
5. Many people have indicated that they would like to share their own personal
experiences on Zoloft or other drugs in public. There are, of course, many journalists
who are interested in hearing about similar stories. However, the journalist
who has followed this story most closely is Jason Cato at The Herald in Rock
Hill, South Carolina. His email is jcato@heraldonline.com.
Please feel free to contact Jason or other responsible journalists.
6. If you or someone you know has been adversely affected by an SSRI medication,
please file a MedWatch report on the FDA's website at http://www.fda.gov/medwatch/report/consumer/consumer.htm.
7. Many people want to write to Chris. If you would like to write to Christopher, please send your letters or cards to our law firm addressed:
Christopher Pittman
c/o Vickery & Waldner, LLP
One Riverway Drive, Suite 1150
Houston, TX 77056-1920
8. Many people have asked what they can send to Chris. At this time, he may receive only stationary, envelopes, stamps and paperback books.
Once again, thank you for your kind thoughts and prayers. They support us in what is, as you might well imagine, a time of extreme sorrow. We are truly overwhelmed by the support Christopher is receiving.
