Christopher Pittman Legal Defense Fund
In the wake of the Pittman verdict our office has been inundated with calls
and emails in support of Chris. Many have asked whether or not they can contribute
to a "legal defense fund" for him. We appreciate the offers of help
and have created such a fund in order to defray the out-of-pocket expenses of
Christopher's defense.
Please send any contributions by check or money order, made payable to "Christopher
Pittman Legal Defense Fund," and mail to Vickery & Waldner, One Riverway,
Suite 1150, Houston, Texas 77056-1920. We will hold the money in trust and will
use it solely for out-of-pocket expenses incurred in Chris' defense.
Just so there will be no question, we are going to spell out how the money
will, and more importantly, will not, be used. NOT ONE SINGLE PENNY will go
to any lawyer for his/her services in this case. Andy Vickery, Paul Waldner
and Karen Barth Menzies have all contributed their time on a pro bono (free)
basis. Hank Mims was formally appointed by the Court and may receive a pittance
from the State of South Carolina for his services; however, the bulk of his
time is also donated and he will also not receive one thin dime from the defense
fund. All monies will be used solely to pay or reimburse those who have expended
funds out-of-pocket for Christopher's defense. In the event that the donations
exceed the expenses, we will plan on investing any excess on Chris' behalf for
that time when, hopefully, he will be released into society again.
